Tadzu Sugiye (1894)

Miss Tadzu Sugiye had been a teacher for 3 years at Nugata Girl's High School when she was offered a scholarship to study at Wellesley College. She studied botany at Wellesley for three years.

• Married Mr. Tokida and had four children
  • One son (Jun Tokida) continued her work and became Professor of Marine Biology at Hokkaido University. He authored "Contributions to the Knowledge of the Pacific Species of Antithamnion and related Algae"
  • Another son became a pastor 

Sugiye passed away on October 28, 1952 at the age of 86 in Hokkaido, Japan.
