Getting Involved
There are many ways to get involved with Sustainability at Wellesley. The College offers a number of resources to make your day-to-day actions at Wellesley more sustainable, whether it is to help your office become greener or plan a zero-waste event.
Every year the office hires interns to help run our programs and support students and staff. If you are interested in more than just participating in these programs, keep an eye out on Instagram (@wellesleysustainability) for our job postings!
Outside of our office there are numerous groups we collaborate with to achieve Wellesley’s sustainability goals. See below for a full selection of groups and departments you can become involved with here at Wellesley:
- Eco-Reps
- The Frost Center for the Environment
- The Paulson Initiative
- EnAct
- Botanistas
- El Table
- Scoop
- Regeneration Farm
Want to practice sustainable habits? See below for inspiration!
- Reduce Energy Usage in your Room
Wellesley College uses radiators to ensure heat is delivered to students’ rooms. Each room is fitted with a radiator that students can use to keep their rooms at their preferred temperature.
- Turn down radiators before breaks or any time away (see instructions below)
- Make sure your windows are closed when the heat is on. Don’t let all that energy escape!
- Sustainably Wash Your Clothes
Washing machines use a lot of energy and water, be sure to:
- Only wash your clothes when you have a full load of laundry
- Wash your clothes in cold water
- Carpool with other students for breaks
Transportation is a big emitter of greenhouse gas emissions. Do you know someone who is driving nearby to where you spend breaks? See you if can carpool home!
- Invest in a reusable water bottle
Wellesley College ensures students and staff have access to water filling stations across campus. Save money and the environment and purchase a refillable water bottle!
- Use power strips
Plug your electronics into a power strip so they can be turned off when not in use. Some electronics still plug electricity even when they are turned off.
- Buy Second-hand
