Rumni Saha

College Chaplain and Hindu and Unitarian Universalist Community Coordinator

Rumni Saha serves as the Hindu and Unitarian Universalist Community Coordinator at Wellesley College.

Rumni was born and raised in India and attended two prestigious seats of learning- Presidency and  Loreto College. It was at the latter institution where Mother Teresa began her luminous journey as a young nun in Calcutta (Kolkata). Before that she was a student at the renowned South Point High School based on Brahmo (Unitarian) philosophy which inculcated in her a respect for all faith traditions. Her elementary days were spent at St. Mary’s School, a Catholic school, known for its diversity. Rumni likes to say that India, her home country, gave her roots that keep her firmly grounded and the US, her adopted country, gave her wings to soar.

Rumni holds a Master of Education degree from Boston University and  greatly enjoyed her time working as a Special Educator in the MA Public Schools for two decades. Rumni graduated from Boston University School of Theology with an MDiv degree (Master of Divinity) in May 2023. She identifies as a Hindu, a Unitarian Universalist, and a Humanist. The richness and pluralism of Hinduism, the Unitarian Universalist call to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and the moral imperative to lead an ethical life that Humanism demands, are what sustain her.

For Rumni, cooking and sharing meals with others are meditative. At the same time, it is Interfaith work that feeds her soul. She is also an avid writer for various outlets, including the Huffington Post. Rumni considers herself, first and foremost, to be a citizen of the world. She feels deeply honored to be a part of the Wellesley community.
