Patricia Powell ’88 is a Jamaican-born novelist whose works explore personal themes of rejection, displacement, and healing among immigrants, the Caribbean diaspora, LGBTQ people, and others. Powells was the Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in Fiction at Harvard University, and the Martin Luther King, Jr Visiting Professor of Writing at MIT. Since 2009, she has been on the English faculty at Mills College.
