An in-residence Equity theatre provides a huge resource for theatre students at Wellesley. Students have the opportunity to hone their skills in a professional setting as interns, and experience the process of a full production. Dive in to acting, design, tech, producing, and more in a truly immersive context alongside industry professionals.
When Wellesley Repertory Theatre was established (as Wellesley Summer Theatre) by Founding Artistic Producer Nora Hussey in 1998, her mission was to provide an artistic home for Wellesley College alums, educators, and local professionals, and to build a bridge for Wellesley College students and graduates into their professional lives. In 2016, the summer theatre company was renamed Wellesley Repertory Theatre. The word “repertory” was deliberately selected to celebrate the close-knit working relationships of the core company. “Repertory” also means a gathering of all available assets, and it is by this broader definition that we plan to proceed in future seasons. For, our company’s diverse assets are the very folks our mission exists to support: Wellesley graduates working in theatre!
Though Wellesley Rep is currently on pause due to campus COVID-19 safety restrictions, we look forward to re-imagining this creative laboratory with students, alumni, and patrons when we can safely re-open. Our goal is to provide a theatre incubator right here on campus, where the greater Wellesley theater network can reunite in a familiar, supportive space to envision, experiment with, and share our work.
