Ted Wang Fellowship for Study in Asia
Wellesley's Ted Wang Fellowship encourages Wellesley College students considering an international career in Asia to gain advanced language skills in an East Asian language and knowledge of the richness of East Asian culture. During a semester in their junior or senior year, Fellows undertake a rigorous semester of study at one of our partner institutions in Greater China, Korea, or Japan and receive a stipend to cover the expenses of networking with professionals in their host country.
At least two years of language study will be required before departure (202 or equivalent). Ted Wang Fellows will receive a stipend to cover expenses of networking with professionals in their host country. Wang Fellows submit a two to three-page report on their experiences in East Asia upon their return and contribute to the EALC departmental blog and annual newsletter.
Academic Program
Ted Wang Fellows will study abroad during the Fall or Spring semester in Japan, Korea or China in programs with excellent foreign language instruction and access to content courses relevant to the student’s academic and professional interests.
Networking
Over the course of the semester, each student will be expected to conduct 5-6 informational interviews with professionals working in an industry that is of interest to the student. These may take place in the host city or elsewhere in the host country. Students will be connected to Wellesley alumnae networks for support in arranging these interviews. Fellows will receive a stipend of $2000 to cover costs related to this project.
Internships
Students are encouraged to connect with Career Education to learn about internship opportunities in Asia that may be pursued in addition to the semester or year abroad.
If Interested...
Interested students should send a cover letter, resumé, and the names of two faculty members who may be contacted as a reference to jthomass@wellesley.edu no later than March 15 (Fall semester) or November 15 (Spring semester).
