Wellesley College Government Cabinet Organizes a Unity Gathering
Wellesley College Government Cabinet responded to President Donald Trump’s executive order banning refugees and travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries with an acknowledgement of the impact on members of the Wellesley community. In an email to fellow students on February 1, the group affirmed: “College Government Cabinet firmly stands in solidarity and in support with all those who are affected… We will continue to support you and advocate for you in situations where you may feel unsafe. We all comprise this community, regardless of our ethnicity, race, religion, or nationality.”
The cabinet organized the unity gathering, the email said, “to celebrate and highlight the diversity, strength, and unity of our community, as well as the power of love and togetherness.” It also referred students to College resources such as the Stone Counseling Center, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and the class deans for additional support.
President Paula Johnson, Dean of Religious Life Tiffany Steinwert, College Government President Zainab Younis ’17, and many others, including community members from a variety of faiths, spoke at the gathering.
