Wellesley's faculty and students are actively engaged in research.

Our faculty have an impressive publication record in various fields of mathematics and statistics, including algebra, analysis, number theory, geometry, topology, graph theory, mathematical physics, causal inference, and nonparametric statistics.  Our research has been recognized by various institutions and agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the Simons Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson National Foundation, the Mathematical Association of America, and others.

In addition, one of the goals of the mathematics department is to provide and encourage research experience for our students.  An increasing number of our majors attend Research Experience for Undergraduates and other summer research programs across the country.  Many also participate in the in-house summer research programs with our faculty or engage in research through independent studies or year-long theses.
