In January 2020, LTS is doing maintenance on a license server that provides licensing to college-owned Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 10, and Office for Windows.
Apple Mac computers are not affected.
College-owned computers still running Office 2010 as of January 2020 have two options, to be completed within 30 days of a notifcation that Microsoft Office on that computer is no longer licensed:
Upgrade to Office 2019 (preferred)
Office 2010 is over a decade old. Office 2019 is the current standard version on college-owned computers.
- Email helpdesk@wellesley.edu suggesting some days and times that would work for you to be at your computer on campus.
- We will coordinate a time for LTS to work with you to upgrade Microsoft Office on your college-owned computer to version 2019.
Continue using Office 2010 (for now)
Do plan to upgrade to Office 2019, but you can change the licensing to one that will work for now.
- Confirm that this is a college-owned computer.
- Restart the computer to make sure you have a "clean slate" with nothing running and any pending installs taken care of.
- Have a faculty or staff member with administrative rights on this computer log in to it.*
- The next step requires a connection to the Wellesley network; on campus, that means connecting to the Wellesley Secure WiFi; off campus, that means setting up our VPN, being connected to vpn.wellesley.edu using Cisco AnyConnect.
- With the PC on the campus network, click on Start, then enter the following location to go to:
\\academicstore\software\facstaff - Double-click on the following folders:
for your college-owned computer
Office2010license - Double-click on relicense.
The next time you run Word, Excel, etc., you should not see any messages about the software not being licensed.
