Native and Indigenous people are often placed in the historical past as “the vanishing race” and have rarely been included in imagining what the future will look like. “Indigenous Futurisms” changes this.

Grace L. Dillon (Anishinaabe) coined the term, paying homage to Afrofuturism, which weaves in traditional knowledge and culture with futuristic ideas and settings. Professor Dillon will give a talk introducing the Wellesley College community to the real and imaginary possibilities of “Indigenous Futurisms.” She is the editor of Walking the Clouds: An Anthology of Indigenous Science Fiction (2012) and is a Professor of Indigenous Nations Studies at Portland State University.
