Electioneering Policy

Electioneering Policy

In the spirit of fairness, we ask each candidate to agree not to electioneer, campaign, solicit votes, or have others electioneer, campaign, or solicit votes on the candidate’s behalf. This prohibition applies to direct contact, either in person or electronically, as well as indirect contact by other voters or through social media or other forms of electronic contact.

The ONLY sanctioned form of candidate support is via the electronic ballot that is made available to all selected candidates. Any other means used for garnering votes will be considered inappropriate and may subject a candidate to disqualification. There is a statement on the ballot that advises all voters that they must abide by this policy as well. WCAA has sole responsibility for promoting the nomination to the eligible voters.

Nominees seeking candidacy on the ballot and those selected to be candidates on the ballot may not:

  • promote their nominaton or appearance on the ballot in any way,

  • send email that mentions the candidacy,

  • use social media to discuss the candidacy,

  • discuss the nomination/candidacy, or

  • ask, encourage, or permit others to promote the candidacy on their behalf.

Candidates selected to be on the ballot may:

  • contact WCAA if told that a voter was not notified about the selection process,

  • if asked about the nomination, inform people that the no campaign electioneering policy applies to everyone, not just the candidates,

  • if asked about the nomination, refer voters to the ballot or to WCAA,

  • if asked about specific views, refer voters to their profile on the ballot, and

  • if asked why they can’t talk about the nomination, inform voters that there is a policy which prohibits campaigning by both candidates and voters.

Candidates should report any violations, either in their favor or against, to WCAA. All candidates must sign an acknowledgement of this policy and an agreement to abide by it on their application form.
