Popularity of Special Solstice Event Makes It a Regular Offering

July 25, 2012
The Wellesley community celebrated the summer solstice on June 20 with a noontime sun salutation during a yoga session on the Academic Quad. Some twenty people spread their yoga mats under the trees and worked through a series of poses led by dance instructor and yogi Samantha Cameron of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics (PERA).

The event met with such enthusiastic reception it will be continued through the summer, alternating between yoga and Pilates instruction. Cameron will teach the yoga sessions; Patty Magill will teach the Pilates sessions. Sessions will meet at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesdays until Aug. 15. In case of rain, the sessions will move indoors to the Academic Council room.

From September to June, PERA offers four yoga classes associated with Healthy You, Wellesley's health management initiative to help employees and their families get and stay healthy. Healthy You is a joint initiative among 15 Boston-area colleges and universities formed in 1995.
