Students Earn Chance to Learn Professional Museum Work

Each summer, a select group of Wellesley College students joins the Davis staff for 10 weeks of hands-on professional experience. This residential, paid, and highly competitive opportunity ensures that students earn marketable skills, gain broad exposure to museum operations, and acquire an overview of best museum policies and practices. Through focused work in one or more of the Davis departments, interns undertake research, collections care, curatorial planning, technology/social media support, and/or educational content development. Activities also include field-trips to museums and arts events, with opportunities to meet arts leaders throughout the region. According to Davis Museum Executive Director Lisa Fischman, “The candidate pool was especially competitive this year, with finalists selected from more than 65 applicants.”

Liliane Pingoud Soriano Curatorial Fellowship at the Musée du Louvre, Paris

This unique exchange program coordinated among the Davis Museum, the Musée du Louvre, and the Ecole du Louvre honors a recent Wellesley College graduate with the extraordinary opportunity to work for four months as a curatorial research Fellow at the Louvre in Paris and, reciprocally, a Masters-level student from the Ecole du Louvre to work in the curatorial department at the Davis. This Fellowship supports travel and housing as well as provides a stipend for the tenure period. To further enhance what former Fellows describe as a transformational experience, the Soriano Curatorial Fellows may attend courses and programs at the Ecole du Louvre; or,  may audit courses and participate in programs on the Wellesley campus.

The Eleanor P. Delorme Museum Internship, Fall 2012

The Eleanor P. DeLorme Intern, a recent Wellesley College graduate, is provided a stipend for full-time work over the course of an eight-week appointment. Engaged closely with the Davis curatorial department, the DeLorme Intern focuses on research, publications, collections management, and exhibition development.
