Wellesley College Announces New Vice President for Development
(WELLESLEY, MASS.) March 20, 2019 — Wellesley College is pleased to announce it has selected Mary M. Casey as its new vice president for development.
As a senior officer of the College, Casey will serve as lead fund-raiser, responsible for the College’s robust and comprehensive development efforts as well as the management of Wellesley’s centralized development operation. She will also be a member of the President’s Leadership Team, working to advance institutional priorities and initiatives.
The College’s thriving alumnae network has helped make Wellesley a commanding presence in higher education fundraising. Wellesley recently raised more than $500 million—the largest campaign ever undertaken by a women’s college—to support its mission to educate and empower the next generation of women leaders who will shape their communities and change the world.
“Mary Casey is an outstanding development professional with deep experience who will serve Wellesley very well in this critical position,” said Wellesley College President Paula A. Johnson. “In the wake of the completion of our historic campaign last summer, we are thrilled that Mary will join our team, and we welcome the innovative ideas and strategic approach she will bring to the College.”
For 21 years, Casey held progressively responsible positions in the Office of College Advancement at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, including eight years as vice president for college advancement. She has been the campaign director for Boston Children’s Hospital for the past four years.
Casey is a magna cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke College and earned her master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Additionally, Casey has been a longtime volunteer for Mount Holyoke College, serving as both a class gift agent and a member of the Alumnae Association board. She is a member of the Corporation for the Perkins School for the Blind and she serves on the Family Support Council for the Department of Developmental Services for the state of Massachusetts. Both organizations are deeply important to Casey, she says, because they advocate for people who often have no powerful lobby to represent them.

I’ve long admired Wellesley’s reputation for intellectual rigor and the deep loyalty of the alumnae body,” said Casey. “It will be a tremendous pleasure to partner with so many talented people to advance the college’s important mission—to educate women who will make a difference in the world.”
Casey will begin her new role at Wellesley on June 1.
