Galen Stone Tower Reaches High Above Summer’s Green Foliage
June 28, 2019
Unless you spent a few semesters in Severance Hall or frequented the snow-covered slope on the eastern side of the building during a Wellesley winter, you probably haven’t seen this view of Galen Stone Tower.
The tower stands 182 feet tall from the ground to its highest point. It is home to the College’s 32-bell carillon, installed in 1931 thanks to a generous donation from Galen Luther Stone, a Boston-based financier and philanthropist who was a College trustee from 1915 to 1925.
