On May 19, Wellesley College Campus Police hosted its first iftar feast to break the daily fast that’s part of Ramadan observance with the student group Al-Muslimat. Ilyas Abu, a campus police patrol officer, organized the meal, which 14 members of the student community and four staff members attended.

”Last year when I started working at Wellesley, I noticed how diverse and inclusive this institution was,” Abu said. “This year, I wanted to find a way to expand our community efforts. With the support of Wellesley Campus Police Chief Lisa Barbin, we couldn't think of a better way than to celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan with our Muslims students.”

The event was such a success that Al-Muslimat hopes to make it an annual event. Abu would like to expand Campus Police's iftar feast to also invite and include a variety of campus partners, such as the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Residential Life, and others.
