Podcast Discusses Approaches to Workforce Diversity in Wellesley’s Construction Projects

As Wellesley continues to pursue ambitious construction and renovation initiatives, including the forward-leaning Science Center Project and renovations to Billings, Pomeroy, and Freeman halls, the Facilities Management Office is hosting a series of symposiums to examine how best to increase workforce diversity in campus design and construction projects in Massachusetts.

This spring, the College invited designers, contractors, engineers, consultants, and representatives from other academic institutions to campus to discuss how to help their industries better reflect the diversity of Massachusetts. Members of Wellesley’s offices of construction and development led group discussions and presentations to examine the successes and failures of existing programs and brainstorm new ways to increase diversity.  

Rinako Sonobe ’20, an architecture major with a minor in math, met with Tim Singleton, Wellesley’s assistant director of construction, to talk about these forums on inclusivity and the search for lasting models for future projects as well as her interest in architecture and how she and other architecture and design students can get involved with the countless projects happening across campus.
