Tanner Conference Highlights Students’ Experiences Outside the Classroom

In India, Wellesley students researched urban poverty and land rights. On the southern coast of Maine, a student studied harbor seals and how to save them. On Wellesley’s campus, students worked alongside the staff of the Davis Museum.

These are among the many extraordinary summer, Wintersession, and study abroad experiences Wellesley students have had this year. On October 30, the College will gather to learn about them at the 18th annual Tanner Conference.

The entire community is invited to the presentations, which will run from 9:15 am to 4:10 pm in the Academic Quad. Breakfast and breaks will be in the PNE-Atrium. Lunch will be served in ALH-Ballroom (Pomeroy Dining Hall will also be open). Visit the Tanner Conference website to see the schedule and descriptions of each session.

This year, the conference program is exclusively digital. Established through the generosity of Wellesley College trustee emerita Estelle “Nicki” Newman Tanner ’57, the conference celebrates the relationship between the liberal arts classroom and an increasingly diverse and interdependent world.

The conference gives student presenters an opportunity to integrate what they’ve learned on campus with what they’ve experienced off campus through internships, service learning projects, student teaching, international study, Wintersession programs, experiential learning, independent study, and research.

In addition to the presentations, Tanner and Career Education will advise students in selecting internship opportunities.

Note: Conference attendees should bring reusable water bottles as plastic bottles will not be available.
