Originally conceived to help alleviate homesickness among new students, the tradition of Flower Sunday has lasted for 143 years. Each September, first-year students are matched with a Wellesley “big sister.” On Flower Sunday, the big sisters give their little sisters flowers to officially welcome them into the Wellesley community, and together they come to the flower-filled Houghton Chapel and Multifaith Center for a multicultural, multifaith program.
