The slope below the Whitin Observatory is the site of the Edible Ecosystem Teaching Garden, designed by permaculture experts Dave Jacke and Keith Zaltzberg along with Wellesley College students, staff, and faculty. In spring 2015, Betsy’s Garden Classroom, created in memory of Elizabeth Anderson Fitzgerald ’60, enhanced the spot. Sited under a 200-year-old white oak, the garden provides a gathering place for College classes and visiting groups.
