Wellesley’s Davis Museum Opens Summer Film Series June 28 with The Wizard of Oz

Wellesley’s Davis Museum invites the campus and neighboring community to follow the Yellow Brick Road to the plaza on June 28 to kick off its third summer film series with a free outdoor screening of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz.

Arthurina Fears, manager of museum education and programs at the Davis, said the museum’s intent this summer is to attract multigenerational family audiences. “We wanted to evoke a sense of nostalgia and to screen timeless films that would be suitable for all ages,” said Fears. “Unique to this film series is connecting aspects of the Davis’ permanent collections with the themes of each film. For instance, for The Wizard of Oz, attendees will create badges that explore courage, love, and friendship, and this theme resonates in a special-themed tour.”

In conjunction with each film, the museum will offer art-making activities and gallery tours beginning at 7 pm. There will be free ice cream provided by Big Gay Ice Cream, beer and other snacks. Guests are invited to bring their own chairs and blankets. Screenings begin at dusk.

August 9: Beauty and the Beast (2017)
