Chelsea Clinton to Speak at Campaign Rally Today
Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Hillary Rodham Clinton ’69, will be on campus today speaking at a political rally in support of her mother’s presidential campaign. The event will take place at 3pm on the campus center event lawn. According to the Hillary for America media advisory, Clinton is expected to discuss college affordability as well as urge millennials to vote. Although some Wellesley student groups are supporting the rally, this is not a College-sponsored event; it is a campaign stop as the presidential race heads into its final weeks before the November 8 election.
This will be the younger Clinton’s first public visit to her mother’s alma mater. Hillary Clinton has kept close ties to Wellesley in the years since her graduation, returning in 2014 for her 45th College reunion, where she spoke with CBS Sunday Morning anchor Jane Pauley.
Hillary Clinton has called her time at the College a “touchstone” in her life and has spoken about the leadership lessons she learned while here. She made national headlines when she delivered the first-ever student speech at commencement, in which she imparted these words to her classmates: “Fear is always with us but we just don’t have time for it. Not now.”
If you plan to attend the political rally, please note that no backpacks or large bags will be allowed. Doors open at 2pm.
