Former Secretary of State, Former UN Ambassador Discuss Shaping the World's New Development Goals

Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright ’59 will visit campus today for a public talk on ending poverty and transforming economies through sustainable development. The talk, titled “Harnessing Consensus: Shaping the World's New Development Goals,” will take place at 4:00 PM in The Diana Chapman Walsh Alumnae Hall Auditorium.

Albright joins Elizabeth Cousens, recently-retired U.S. Representative on the UN Economic and Social Council and Alternate Representative to the UN General Assembly, and Dr. Homi Kharas, a Brookings Institution senior fellow and deputy director for the Global Economy and Development program. Robert L. Paarlberg, Betty Freyhof Johnson ’44 Professor of Political Science, will moderate.

Today’s talk is free and open to the public. It will also be available via live stream.

The 2015 Institute concludes tomorrow, Friday, January 23, but the Fellows’ experience is hardly over. Through the Institute, Albright Fellows participate in a transformative process that takes them from a Wellesley classroom to internships at leading organizations around the world, and back. Each Fellow has the opportunity to further apply what she has learned during Wintersession by participating in a global affairs internship in the United States or abroad during the summer and present their work at the Tanner Conference this fall.
