League Championships and Other Milestones for Many Sports
As the city of Boston celebrates the Red Sox World Series championship this week, Wellesley is celebrating Blue athletes’ own successful fall season.
Field hockey is ranked #13 in the nation. The squad earned a perfect 8-0 mark in NEWMAC play with a 15-2 record overall. Wellesley field hockey was NEWMAC Regular Season Champions and will host the upcoming conference tournament Nov. 9-10.
On October 27, Wellesley Blue crew won its fifth back-to-back Seven Sisters Championship, hosted this year by Bryn Mawr College on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River. This came after a week after Blue rowed in Boston’s Head of the Charles regatta, placing eighth of 25 in the Collegiate Women’s Eights.
Other fall highlights include:
Cross country wound up the fall season as Seven Sisters Championship runner-up, with three runners earning All Seven Sisters honors.
Golf completed its fall season at home in the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational on October 13. The second half of the season resumes in the Spring, including a run at the Liberty League Championships.
Soccer enjoyed a six-game unbeaten streak this fall, with a 6-1-1 record in NEWMAC play. Blue is in the mix for the #1 seed in the NEWMAC.
Tennis finished the fall season as NEWMAC Runner up, with a 9-3 overall record. They’ll come back in the spring for a full schedule of matches, including a turn at hosting the Nor’Easter Bowl.
Volleyball had a record-breaking season, with its third straight (and 22nd overall) Seven Sisters Championship and coach Dorothy Webb’s 500th career win. See our earlier story on volleyball highlights.
