In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson established the National Advisory Commission on Violence and Civil Disorders to examine the causes of the racial unrest in Detroit, Newark, and other American cities. What do U.S. neighborhoods look like 50+ years later?

This discussion will be led by Marcus Casey, associate professor of economics and director of undergraduate studies at University of Illinois Chicago. Marcus also serves as a fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution. His research lies at the intersection of urban, labor, and public economics, including topics such as: sorting and neighborhood change dynamics, valuation of amenities, spatial and intergenerational aspects of inequality, technology and local labor market dynamics, and education policy.
