The album's content extends beyond just mines, showcasing the collector's interest in various aspects of Chinese life, including religion. Several photographs feature Taoism (or Daoism), an ancient Chinese philosophy and religion based on the teachings of Lao Tzu. Two photos depict a Taoist priest standing in front of a temple. He is clad in a traditional robe, signifying his religious affiliation. The first image offers a full-body view of the priest, while the second focuses on the temple's facade. The second photo reveals details in the background: three sculptures. The central figure with a long beard is likely Taiqing, a revered Taoist god, flanked by his disciples. Incense offerings can also be seen in the foreground. The multiple photographs dedicated to Taoism suggest the photographer, and presumably the album's owner, held a particular interest in documenting China's cultural landscape, particularly its philosophical and religious aspects. Their inclusion hints at a curiosity about Chinese beliefs beyond the professional focus on mines.
