Eva Knaggs:

Remember a Place Not Here

Eva Knaggs
Architecture major

Often beginning with a walk, my work lives with me, taking on multiple forms and evolving as I do. The spaces I live in become an extension of my work, lending themselves to constant reconsideration and rearrangement. Through material studies and meditations, my drawings explore overlooked and underutilized forms of matter and their relationship to our sense of self and place. The intent for me work is to plant the seed for deeper relationships with overlooked organic materials, with the aim of re-thinking relationships to building, materials, craft, responsible living, and sustainable and healthy environments.

What is beneath our feet? What is inside our hearts?

Memory lives through material. This project considers pieces of organic debris as vital objects, each a complex and living entity. These pieces of matter are displayed as assemblages, creating conversations between the objects, environment, and individual interacting with them. Alongside these assemblages are drawings which have been derived from interactions with the objects: meditations on structure and essence.

Most of my work is done on Hahnemuhle paper with a mechanical pencil, paper straight edge, fine tipped eraser, and blending stump. Both the assemblages and drawings displayed are very small, lending themselves to a feeling of preciousness and encouraging touching, wonder, and interaction.
