Smrithi Chanjeevaram:

Remember a Place Not Here

Smrithi Chanjeevaram
Biological Sciences major, Studio Art minor

Treasure the mundane, appreciate the ordinary. Much of life is incredibly focused on the future. What are you doing to fill your time? Are you being productive? Are you stretching yourself as thin as possible before you fracture? Before you shatter?

digital painting of a person in a subway car looking out the window at a city

Navigating life through my undergrad while constantly thinking about my future prevented me from appreciating the more mundane aspects of life. These drawings are fantastical adaptations of my more ordinary, dull moments. Some pieces are dramatic, unrealistic even. Others are more relatively realistic. The common thread is the connection to my personal life. Whether it be real moments I've captured and embellished, or simply fragments of my imagination driven by my emotions, these are tangible representations of my emotional process.

four digital paintings hung on a fabric wall: a hole in burning paper, a green forest scene with two glowing figures, a sunset window seen from inside, and a person watching a cityscape through the window of a subway
