Town Hall with Immigration Lawyer

December 6, 2016
Prasant Desai, an immigration attorney discusses emerging issues for undocumented immigrants in the Library Lecture Room.

Dear Wellesley community,

While it is unclear what the future holds for U.S. immigration law—and what potential changes may mean for colleges and universities, I feel that it is important to reaffirm what we do know and what we stand for at Wellesley College. Let me state unequivocally our commitment to equity, respect, and safety for all. I believe our values require that when one or more of us are threatened, we must speak and we must act with a united voice.

To that end, work is underway to determine how best to address a variety of future scenarios. We are studying the options and organizing our efforts, but as the semester draws to a close, we wanted to share some legal information—especially with students—to help clarify the issues before our community scatters for the holidays.

We will hold a second Town Hall Friday, December 9 from 3:30 to 5:00pm in the Library Lecture Room where Madeline Cronin and Prasant Desai, attorneys from the firm of Iandoli, Desai & Cronin, will join me to share an overview of the current situation and discuss the specific issues that are emerging for undocumented immigrants. Q&A will follow.

Sincerely,

President Paula Johnson
