Demystifying the Marshall Scholarship - an April 2021 webinar organized by the Marshall Diversity Outreach Initiative and Wellesley Fellowship Programs

The Marshall Scholarship is a nationally-competitive program that supports American students for graduate work at any university in the United Kingdom. This webinar explores what kinds of people become Marshall Scholars (all sorts!) and what kinds of opportunities the program offers. You'll learn about everyday student life in the UK, cultural adjustments of many flavors, how to overcome doubts about applying, the many dimensions of diversity in the Marshall Scholarship, and the benefits of the tight-knit scholar community.  Speakers include:

• Michaella Moore, an alumna of Howard University and a 2020 Marshall Scholar currently working towards her masters in Medical Anthropology at SOAS, University of London.
• Becca Farnum is Assistant Director for Outreach & Engagement at Syracuse University London, where she teaches on themes of global justice and anti-racism. As a 2012 EPA Marshall Scholar, Becca studied water security at the University of East Anglia, international law at the University of Edinburgh, and environmental peacebuilding at King's College London.
• Emily Rutherford, a historian of gender and sexuality in modern Britain, currently works as a Junior Research Fellow at Merton College, Oxford. She did her undergraduate degree at Princeton, and pursued an MPhil in Modern British & European History at Oxford as a Marshall Scholar in 2012-14.
• Kate Weber is a 2007 Marshall Scholar and earned a Ph.D. in Genetics from Cambridge University. Since earning her doctorate, Kate has pursued a career in science policy.

Applicants for the Marshall must first apply for nomination by their undergraduate institution. Wellesley students and graduates can read more about the campus process here.
