On-Campus Recruiting Program Policies (Students)
Career Education expects all students to abide by the following rules in order to maintain the success and integrity of Wellesley’s recruiting program. Students who do not abide by these policies risk suspension from Handshake, removal from the campus recruiting program, and/or referral to Honor Code Council. For students who are suspended from Handshake and/or the campus recruiting program, reinstatement will be at the discretion of Career Education staff.
-
Applications:
- All documents, including but not limited to applications, resumes, cover letters, transcripts, writing samples, and test scores, uploaded and submitted through Handshake or other application systems must be truthful and untampered with.
- Students are responsible for keeping track of their application deadlines, interview dates, times, and locations.
- If a company or organization contacts Career Education and reports any occurrence of an untruthful statement or tampering with a document, the student may be referred to Honor Code Council. Companies and organizations have the right to rescind offers of employment in such instances.
-
Interviews
- Students are expected to keep all scheduled interview appointments. If they must cancel, cancellations must be completed through Handshake at least two full business days in advance. Students must also inform Career Education by emailing recruiting@wellesley.edu. In the event of illness or an emergency where a student cannot cancel two business days in advance, they must call Career Education at 781.283.2352 or visit in-person no later than 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the interview.
- If a student must cancel their scheduled interview appointment after the cancellation deadline, they must write a letter of apology, addressed to the recruiter, and submit it to the Career Education Employer Engagement Team at recruiting@wellesley.edu. The Employer Engagement Team will review and approve the apology letter and send it to the recruiter.
- If a student no-shows for a scheduled interview appointment, they must also write a letter of apology addressed to the recruiter, and submit it to Career Education’s Employer Engagement Team at recruiting@wellesley.edu.
- Failure to communicate with Career Education about cancelling a scheduled interview appointment and/or no-showing for a scheduled interview appointment may result in temporary suspension from Handshake, which includes access to Career Education events, appointments, resources and interviews, and/or additional restrictive actions by Career Education.
- Students are expected to follow up each interview appointment with a thank you note or email to all employers with whom they interviewed.
-
Job and Internship Offers
- Students are expected to carefully consider any job or internship offer they receive, and they are under no obligation to accept any offer. Employers are expected to give students a reasonable amount of time to make an informed decision about their job or internship offers. Career Education suggests that students be given until November 1 or two weeks after the offer date (whichever is later) to make a decision about offers given during the Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 recruiting season. It is recommended that offers made during Winter 2023 and Spring 2024 also provide candidates with at least two weeks to make an informed decision.
- Students should understand that they may ask for more time, if needed, to make the best decision about a job or internship offer. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with Career Education Advisors to discuss their job or internship offers if they are unsure of what to do, as well as review the Career Education resources related to evaluating, accepting, declining and negotiating a job offer.
- Once a student accepts a job or internship offer, either verbally or in writing, it is BINDING. It is unethical to renege on accepting an employment offer once it has been accepted by the offering organization. Students who renege on their acceptance of an offer made through the campus recruiting program may face a temporary suspension from Handshake and the campus recruiting program.
- Students should update Career Education when they accept an offer, and they should withdraw all applications for other opportunities. All graduating students are expected to complete the First Destination Survey with their relevant employment details.
- Employers each have their own policies, procedures and timelines when it comes to recruitment and interviewing. Career Education is not responsible for any employment decisions made by companies or organizations and makes no endorsements or guarantees regarding companies or organizations seeking to hire Wellesley students or alumnae.
-
Recruiting Platform — Handshake
- Career Education provides access to job listings through Handshake for the convenience of students and alumnae. In order to ensure accurate profile information, students should review and update their Handshake career interests and newsletter selections at the start of each academic year.
- While every effort is made to verify the legitimacy of both organizations and jobs posted, the College does not endorse or recommend any particular employer, and a posting does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation. The College explicitly makes no representations or guarantees about job listings or the accuracy of the information provided by the employer. The College is not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or any other aspect of off-campus employment without limitation. It is the responsibility of students to perform due diligence in researching employers when applying for or accepting private, off-campus employment and to thoroughly research the facts and reputation of each organization to which they are applying. Students should be prudent and use common sense and caution when applying for or accepting any position.
- Students who suspect that a job opportunity may be fraudulent should contact the Employer Engagement team in Career Education immediately at recruiting@wellesley.edu.
