Eligibility

  • Current sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply but some employer partners specify one class year over another, so please read the internship information sheet carefully.
  • Students can apply for up to two Career Ed Internship Placements, but they must submit two distinct applications in Workday.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in the College for the 2025 Spring and Fall semesters or in approved study abroad programs. Exchange program students from other institutions are not eligible.
  • International students are welcome and encouraged to apply but will need to obtain Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization through Slater if interning in the U.S.
  • There are no minimum GPA requirements but students must be in good academic and social standing with no past honor code violations.

Compensation

  • Most Career Ed Internship Placements award students $5,000 for an 8-10 week internship period. The College distributes the funding in two separate installments via Workday: $4,500 in mid-June and $500 in September. (Please note: A few select Career Ed Placements offer housing so the award for those sites is reduced to $3,500 plus housing.)
  • Funded interns should budget for a maximum of 300 hours over an 8-10 week period––and 8 weeks is strongly recommended for students going to high-cost cities—as the funds are not intended to cover the expenses associated with additional internship weeks.
  • International students will be taxed at 14% on the stipend but may be able to file a U.S. Tax return to receive a refund. The College is also required to have tax forms on file for international students being paid by the College so those students should check in with Dorothy Koulais (dotti.koulalis@wellesley.edu) in Wellesley Accounts Payable about the required tax paperwork.

Internship Commitment & Policies

All Career Ed Internship Placements run a minimum of 300 hours over 8-10 weeks and adhere to these College Internship Policies for general eligibility, compensation, time commitment, and experiential learning requirements. Please be sure to review these policies before applying to any opportunity and reach out to the Career Ed Internships team (internships@wellesley.edu) if you have any questions.

Application Requirements & Support

Eligible students can apply for up to two Career Ed Internship Placements during the application cycle but they must submit two distinct applications in Workday. Consult the Application Checklist for required application materials and application tips and be sure to submit each required document as a PDF named in this format: YourName_DocumentType (e.g., HildaSuarez_CoverLetter).

Career Ed Internship Placements are competitive so we encourage students to submit their strongest application—and we’re here to help! We invite you to join one of our 1-1 and group events (e.g., Working Parties, Resume Workshops). Registration details can be found on this Application Support Webpage

We also recommend you start early and consult the Application Checklist for tips and resources or schedule an appointment with an advisor in Career Education (via Handshake).

Selection Process

Career Ed Internship Placement nominations are based on the quality of a student’s application materials and the needs of our employer partners, not on a student’s financial need. Our nomination process also prioritizes students who have not previously received summer funding from the College.

Wellesley’s Career Education staff review and individually score ALL SUBMITTED APPLICATION MATERIALS to identify the strongest applicants and make nominations (typically 3-5 nominees per placement). Nomination decisions will be communicated to applicants by December 1.

Once nominated, Career Education sends submitted COVER LETTERS and RESUMES to each employer partner who will then review materials, conduct interviews, and select their final intern candidate(s). Wellesley Career Education will communicate final employer decisions to students by the end of January (fall applicants). Spring applicants will likely hear results in late April.
