Join Shaela Sageth ’26, Beverly Cohen ’26, and Nana Ama Asare-Kwaah ‘28 for a tour and analysis of the 19th-21st century Native American gallery at the Davis in celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Explore perceptions of Native American cultures as a result of the commodification of cultural iconography from the Plains and Southwest, seen especially in the tourist trade and museum collecting practices. This tour is presented in collaboration with the Native American and Indigenous Students Association (NAISA) at Wellesley. Refreshments afterwards generously provided by NAISA.

Join Dr. Nicole Berlin, Associate Curator of Collections, project director Dr. Elizabeth Minor, and student archaeologist Juening Mao ‘26 for an exclusive, in-depth tour of Digging into History: The Wellesley College Hall Archaeology Project. Uncover the captivating story of this community-driven excavation of Wellesley College’s first building, which tragically burned down in 1914, and gain a deeper understanding of the rich insights it offers into life at Wellesley at the turn of the 20th century.

Stephen Hamilton: A Day in Residency (Campus Only)

Join Boston-based artist, arts educator, and scholar Stephen Hamilton for a day in residency at Wellesley. A Black American trained in traditional West African artforms, Hamilton will share his multidisciplinary practice with students, faculty, and staff through an arts workshop, artist’s talk, and informal conversations.

 

Hamilton’s artwork is on view now in the Boston Public Art Triennial and at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University

 

10:00 - 12:30 PM: Natural Dye Adire Workshop [Student, Faculty and Staff only]

Using materials such as walnuts and goldenrod from the Botanic Gardens, participants will explore our relationship with nature. By focusing on natural dyes and Yoruba spirituality, Stephen Hamilton will invite students to learn from his unique art-making process. To reserve a spot, please sign up here.

Hear Hamilton discuss how he incorporates both Western and African techniques, blending figurative painting and drawing with resist dyeing, weaving, and woodcarving.

FAMILY DAY: Digging Into Art and Music

Inspired by our Fall 2025 special exhibitions, the Davis invites family members of all ages to explore visual art and music with paint, sound, photography, and archaeology. Student-led tours, storytelling, a scavenger hunt, and other exciting activities will bring the art to life. Refreshments will be served.
