Application Material Review

Our Career Advisors are always happy to help review your resume, cover letter, personal statement, or other application materials. Here are some ways to ensure that the process runs as smoothly as possible:

  • Make an appointment: To allow us to help you best, studets should make an appointment with either an Industry Advisor or an Advisor for Career Exploration (ACE). Alums should make an appointment with either an Industry Advisor or Alumnae Career Advisor (for general, non-industry specific feedback). Meeting with an advisor ensures we understand what opportunities you’re applying for, and what concerns or questions you have about your application materials. We recommend making an appointment well in advance (AT LEAST 2 weeks), to ensure we can offer feedback prior to your deadline!

  • Prepare your materials: You can start by preparing your materials for review by writing a draft or outline. While we can review drafts of application materials at any stage of development, we can’t write them for you!  If you aren’t sure where to get started, please check out our resources or make an appointment with an advisor.

  • Plan ahead: Our team advises a large number of students and does not work on weekends and most major holidays. A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on our part. The earlier you can submit your application materials for review, the better! Please note, there are certain times of the year when our office is busier, leading to longer wait times. If you are applying for a campus-wide program, keep in mind that many other students likely are too!

    • Note: Specifically for fellowships and scholarships, appointments are frequently unavailable during August/September, so planning ahead is essential for fall fellowship deadlines.

  • You have the final call! While we provide helpful information and suggestions, it is always your responsibility to review the final draft of your materials for content and typos.  Your voice is the most important voice and our feedback is not required to appear in the final.
