S. Joanne Murray
Joanne Murray, director Albright Institute

S. Joanne Murray is the director of the Center for Work and Service at Wellesley College and the director of the Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs, Wintersession and Internship Programs. The focus of her work is on preparing students for citizenship and leadership in the context of the College’s mission to educate women who will make a difference in an increasingly interdependent world.

In recent years, she has been instrumental in building the College’s internships and service learning programs, which annually fund over 300 Wellesley students to participate in internships in over 35 countries and throughout the United States. Through a partnership with the dean of the College, Joanne co-founded the Tanner Conference , which is premised on the belief that greater understanding of the learning that takes place off-campus, combined with critical inquiry into the purpose, value, and effect of such learning—has the potential to move liberal education in new directions.
