Pedagogical Model

Wellesley’s Albright Institute brings a unique approach to the challenges we face in the world today.

Wellesley launched the Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs in January 2010. Its aim? Prepare women to act on a world stage.

The Albright Institute is a living laboratory that explores the value and practical application of the liberal arts disciplines to global-scale challenges. And by offering academic theory in a “real-life” context, the Albright Institute generates richly nuanced perspectives on global issues.

The Institute focuses on three pedagogical methods: academic theory and research, leading practitioner perspectives from “the field,” and learning through action—the opportunity to apply newly gained knowledge in the world during international internships.

Building upon the proven success of this unique educational model, the academic program of Wellesley's partnership with Peking University is driven by:

  • Rigorous, well-informed thinking
  • A profound and authentic sense of civic obligation
  • An appreciation for the challenges of complexity, and the willingness to leave one’s comfort zone
  • The perspective and judgment that enhances effective decision making
  • A commitment to open dialogue–and an open mind

"The Institute will play a critical role in Wellesley's education of future women leaders across the world," says Wellesley College President H. Kim Bottomly. Sharing its pedagogical model with partner institutions will only expand the reach of liberal-arts based leadership development.
