Fellowship
Wintersession 2022
The Albright Wintersession 2022 revolved around the theme of crossing boundaries. Fellows and Faculty reflected upon global institutions—where they currently stand, and where they stand to change.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wintersession was redesigned for a virtual setting. During the first two weeks of Wintersession, the Albright Fellows attended classes with prominent speakers, including academics, alumnae practitioners, and thought leaders from outside organizations and around the globe. The Fellows worked in interdisciplinary groups to research and form perspectives on pressing international issues, culminating in an interactive Q&A session with the Institute’s Distinguished Visiting Professor.
The eight topical issues of the 2022 Wintersession were:
1. Regulating ransomware organizations from Russia: jurisdiction, transparency and accountability
2. The future of labor migration policy between Italy and Libya
3. Taxing global capital - implementing the 2021 G20 agreement to end tax havens
4. Protecting shorebird migration along China Yellow Sea
5. The small arms trade in Colombia
6. Securing and dismantling the F.S.O Safer in the Red Sea
7. Data privacy in African smart cities
8. Negotiating ownership and repatriation: Native American artifacts in the European art market
This year’s Distinguished Visiting Professor was María Eugenia Brizuela de Ávila, Minister of Foreign Affairs for El Salvador from 1999 to 2003 and current head of Inversiones Vision, her executive coaching and consulting firm.
