During the summer of 2020, Lizette worked as a remote intern for the YMCA of the East Bay where she supported nontraditional college students as a Statistics tutor and designed promotional material for YMCA events and resources. On campus, Lizette is a Posse and McNair scholar who uses every research opportunity to not only work towards answering a scientific question but also make the science itself more accessible by making educational resources that summarize her work. Outside of academics, Lizette rehearses and performs with the Tupelos a capella group. She is fluent in Spanish and hopes to go abroad in the near future to learn how STEM is taught in other countries and apply that knowledge in her graduate studies of physics education research. Lizette hopes to use her experiences with physics and pedagogy to make STEM education more accessible and inclusive for all students.
