Kate Azar ’21

During the summer of 2019, Kate worked with Professor Semedo of the Universidade of Cabo Verde in Praia, CV to help test and replicate a water cistern monitoring device. In the fall of 2019 Kate was involved in the data collection and analysis of the dissociation of oxygen isotopologues at Lyman Alpha both at the SOLEIL synchrotron in France and on campus with Professor Stark. The summer of 2020, Kate worked as a SULI intern at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) on the Axion Dark Matter Experiment (ADMX) where she helped test a new experimental design for a reflector-based broadband search for axion dark matter. On campus, Kate is actively involved as a learning assistant in the Physics Department for the introductory suite of courses. Outside of physics, Kate spends her time on Lake Waban with the Wellesley College Sailing team. She is always looking for opportunities to learn and practice Portuguese whether that’s through a language lunch table or independently studying literature and film with Professor Igrejas. Upon graduation, Kate plans to pursue a PhD in particle physics and travel throughout the Portuguese speaking world.
