In the Summer of 2017, Hans worked at the D.C. Office of Planning and the Eno Center for Transportation, while continuing to do research with the MIT Mobility Lab. After working as a photojournalist for an urban grassroots organization in Indonesia with the Emily MacFarquhar ‘59 Fellowship in Summer 2016, they became more interested in urban space and the study of spatial accessibility, particularly for individuals and communities with low social and economic capital. After spending the Fall 2016 semester at the University of Jordan and the Spring 2017 semester at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, they continued to conduct research about urban planning and data science, while also volunteering at the Collateral Repair Project in Amman, The Hackney Migrant Centre, and the Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre. On campus, Hans works at the Baltzell Art Library, is a Queer Council Advisory Board member, and enjoys training for marathons. After graduation, Hans plans on pursuing a PhD in urban studies with a focus on public transit, with plans to also use photojournalism as a way to document the evolvement of a city.
