Clara Shanabrook ’23
Clara’s coursework focuses on politics and religion in the Middle East, the treatment of Shari’a law by America’s legislative and judicial systems, and global justice and development. As a 2021 Davis Project for Peace Fellow, Clara led a self-designed project in Thermopolis refugee camp addressing violence and trauma through community run sports. This project was inspired by a gap year working in refugee camps with nonprofit REFUGYM; Clara continues as a member of REFUGYM’s Board of Trustees. After the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, Clara joined the State Department’s Operation Allies Refuge, coordinating the hiring of interpreters for Afghan SIV evacuations. Previously, Clara interned with International Rescue Committee as an Immigration Legal Intern, preparing client applications to USCIS. On campus she is SPEC Chair of College Government and a member of Honor Code Council. Clara plans to attend law school after graduation and looks forward to a career in public service incorporating her interests in immigration policy, public defense, and family law.
