She worked at the Massachusetts Division of Banks this past summer 2015 as Regulatory Compliance and License Examiner intern. Carine had the opportunity to travel to El Salvador and interned with a local nonprofit (ASAPROSAR) this past January 2015 to implement a sanitation project with a team of MIT engineers as part of a Development-Lab initiative. While in El Salvador she redesigned and built two compost toilets in the rural community of Santa Ana. Carine was awarded a Global Engagement/Anchor Point Fellowship in the summer 2013 to intern at the Organizaçoes das Mulheres do Cabo Verde in Fogo to research various women’s issues such as domestic violence, and also research the use of microfinance fundings and entrepreneurship to alleviate poverty. This internship inspired Carine to become a Peer Health Educator to provide a different perspective on women’s health issues on campus. Additionally, Carine is also actively involved with the Wellesley African Students Association (WASA) and the Multi-Faith Council on campus. For the past two and a half years Carine worked as the Student Coordinator for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program initiative at Wellesley. Carine has a multicultural background and has an understanding of six languages.
