Marilyn Sides is a member of The Department of English and Creative Writing.
She is the Director of Creative Writing. She has Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Intellectual History from The Johns Hopkins University. She writes fiction and creative non-fiction. Her collection of short stories, The Island of the Mapmaker's Wife and Other Tales, and her novel, The Genius of Affection, were published by Harmony, a division of Random House. The title story of the collection was selected for The O. Henry Prize Stories 1991. Recent publications include: a short essay, "We Lived in the Desert, Then", a short story, “The Haiku Master ” (The Common, Issue 15), and a long memoir essay "The Consolations of Literature" (forthcoming in Arion Fall 2018). She teaches creative writing courses, English literature, and World Literature courses.
