Marco Sassòli is professor of international law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva as well as associate professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada.
He is commissioner and member of the Executive Committee of the International Commission of Jurists. From 1985-1997, he worked for the ICRC at the headquarters and in the field and chaired the board of Geneva Call from 2004-2013. In March 2022 he was member of a mission of experts under the Moscow Mechanism of the OSCE enquiring into violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) and human rights in Ukraine between 24 February 2022 and 1 April 2022. He has published widely on IHL, human rights law, international criminal law, the sources of international law, and the responsibility of states and non-state actors.
