He was trained as an economist in Greece (AUEB) and in England (MSc York; PhD Bristol). He previously worked at the London School of Economics (1990-93), the Greek Prime Minister’s Office (1997-2001), the University of Crete, Greece (1996-99 & 2001-04), and the Athens University of Economics and Business (2004-16). He has also worked as advisor to international organizations such as the European Commission, the OECD, UNICEF, and the World Bank. In 2012-2014 he was a member of the Expert Group on Social Investment for Growth and Cohesion on the invitation of European Commissioner László Andor. In 2014-2015 he visited the United States as a Fulbright Scholar, at Center for European Studies, Harvard, and at Center for Equitable Growth, UC Berkeley. In 2017-2018 he was Visiting Scholar at Center for the Study of Europe, Boston University. As an economist with an interest in public policy, he has published on a variety of topics in peer-reviewed journals. He frequently contributes articles to the national press, mostly in his native Greece, commenting on current affairs.
