Véronique Christory is the Senior Arms Control Adviser for the International Committee of the Red Cross, Delegation to the UN.
The ICRC assists and protects people in armed conflicts and develops International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Since 1997, she promotes and develops laws regulating the use of weapons, including conventional and nuclear weapons as well as new technologies e.g Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems and Cyber. She participated in all the negotiations related to the weapons issues at the United Nations in the last two decades, notably the Arms Trade Treaty (2013), and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (2017). The historic importance of the Treaty has been highlighted by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)’s 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. She is currently serving as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Lycée Français de New York. She holds a MA in International Relations and a MA in Russian and Slavic and Eastern European Studies from the National Institute of Oriental Civilisations and Languages (INALCO) in Paris. She is the proud mother of four children, including a current Wellesley student, Celine, class of 2021. Véronique received the 2018 Compassion Award from an international Catholic NGO, Heart’s Home.
