Since 1997, she has promoted and developed laws regulating the use of weapons, including conventional and nuclear weapons, as well as new technologies (e.g., autonomous weapons systems - AWS) and cyberwarfare. She also partook in a demining course in Cambodia. She participated in all the negotiations related to weapons issues at the UN in the last two decades, notably the Arms and the Convention on Cluster Munitions. She negotiated the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW in 2017). The historic importance of the Treaty has been highlighted by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN)’s 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.
She holds a Masters in International Relations and a Masters in Russian and Slavic and Eastern European Studies from INALCO in Paris. She is the proud mother of four children, including a recent Wellesley graduate, Céline, class of 2021. Véronique received the 2018 Compassion Award from Consolatio, an international catholic NGO for her dedication to disarmament and the 2024 Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s Women Waging Peace Award.
