Oluwole Ojewale

Oluwole Ojewale obtained a PhD in urban and regional planning and possesses 10 years of experience in the academic, nonprofit and think tank operations.

Currently, he serves as the regional coordinator at the West Africa office of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Dakar, Senegal. On the ENACT program at ISS, he leads on improving evidence-based knowledge and analysis on transnational organized crime, and its impact on governance, development, social and state fragility in the Central Africa region. Through research, evidence and technical advisory, he supports state actors and civil society organizations by providing sustainable solutions to environmental and transnational crime challenges in Cameroon, Chad, Central Africa Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Nigeria. Prior to his present position, he worked with various actors across Nigeria, and served as project manager on PCVE project aimed at building community resilience through participation in rural and urban areas. He co-authored “Urbanization and Crime in Nigeria” - adjudged as the first comprehensive book on the intersection between urbanization and crime in Nigeria. His public policy and advocacy commentaries have been published in Harvard Bulletin, ISS Today, The Brookings Institution, The Africa Report, Africa at LSE, and The Conversation. He features frequently as a public affairs analyst on FRANCE24, BBC, Newzroom Afrika, News Central and CGTN.
