Winter Housing Registration must be completed prior to 9:00 am on

Student Eligibility for Housing

Winter housing will be available for those students who must remain on campus during the period between the two semesters. Only those students who are engaged in academic programs and activities, or who are considered independent for federal and institutional financial aid purposes and whose permanent address is Wellesley College, will be able to live on campus (see details below).  Residential programs and other student support services are limited from the end of exams on December 20th until the start of second semester classes on January 21st.  Students participating in Career Education programs and those cross-registered at Brandeis for the spring semester will be scheduled for early arrival.  All other students should plan to be off campus until residence halls reopen on January 18th.

Eligibility criteria for Winter Break Housing (December 20 – December 31) includes:

  • students who are considered independent for federal and institutional financial aid purposes and whose permanent address is Wellesley College
  • certain varsity athletes
  • international students who are unable to travel to their home location due to travel or financial constraints

Dining

The winter break and wintersession are not part of the fall and spring semester meal plan. Dining halls will be closed during the winter break from December 20th (after breakfast) to December 31st. However, with several hundred students anticipated to be on campus during wintersession, we will be opening a single dining location (Bates) with a limited menu from January 1st (dinner) through January 18th. Full spring dining operations resume on Sunday, January 19th.  In order to ensure that students do not experience food insecurity, the January meal plan is mandatory for all students living on campus.

Cost

There are costs associated with housing and food outside of term time. Students who are approved to remain on campus during the winter break period will be billed $155 for room costs only, which will then be fully waived.

Students who are approved to remain on campus with a student cost during the wintersession period will be billed $1,020 (housing and food); these costs will be partially waived, with $255 waivers applied to both room and board charges, for a total student cost of $510.

Students who are approved to remain on campus with no student cost during the wintersession period will be billed $1,020 (housing and food); these costs will then be waived.

Any student who has been approved to be on campus and who is experiencing financial hardship should contact SFS directly.
