AppleTVs allow wireless projection from recent MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and, with some additional software, Windows laptops.
AppleTVs allow Apple devices to wirelessly project in classrooms. This allows the Apple device to present anywhere in the room and not be limited to presenting at the podium.
AppleTVs are installed in most classrooms on campus.
To use the AppleTV in classrooms:
In order to display the AppleTV image on the projection screen or TV, first select the AppleTV source on the classroom touch screen. This is the same touch screen used to display the Desktop computer, laptop, BluRay, etc.
With a Mac laptop
If your OS is Ventura or Sonoma (most current Mac laptops), see the linked instructions.
For previous OS:
- Check that your laptop is connected to Wellesley Secure.
- Click the AirPlay symbol located on the right of the top bar, to the left of the wifi symbol. If you don't see the AirPlay symbol, open System Preferences (the gear symbol) then select Displays, and use the AirPlay display drop down menu.
- Select the AppleTV named after the room you are in.
- Be sure to select the AppleTV source on the classroom touch screen.
- If you're connecting your device to the AppleTV for the first time you'll be prompted to enter a 4 digit code. On the projection screen/TV you'll see a 4 digit code. Enter that code on your laptop. (You won't be prompted to enter a 4 digit code if you previously connected to that particular AppleTV.)
- The screen of your laptop is now mirrored on the projection screen or TV.
- To stop displaying your laptop, click the AirPlay symbol and choose Turn AirPlay Off.
With an iPad or iPhone
- Check that your Apple device is connected to Wellesley Secure.
- Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to bring up the iOS Control Center.
- Tap the Screen Mirroring symbol, located under the Bluetooth symbol, and choose the AppleTV named after the room you are in.
- Be sure to select the AppleTV source on the classroom touch screen.
- If you're connecting your device to the AppleTV for the first time you'll be prompted to enter a 4 digit code. On the projection screen/TV you'll see a 4 digit code. Enter that code on your Apple device. (You won't be prompted to enter a 4 digit code if you previously connected to that particular AppleTV.)
- The screen on your iOS device is now mirrored on the projection screen or TV. You can dismiss the Control Center now by swiping it up.
- To stop displaying your iOS device, go to the Control Center again (swipe down from the top right corner) and tap the highlighted room number and tap Stop Mirroring.
With a Windows laptop
